    Microeconomic Aspects of Productivity Growth under Import Substitution: Turkey

    This paper assesses the empirical relevance of "dynamic" factors in industrialization in developing countries. Using data from a sample of 91 firms, rates of growth of output per unit of input are calculated. It is shown that there is little basis, at least with regard to Turkish experience, to the notion that non-traditional industries are in some sense more "dynamic" than traditional industries.

    Pedal curves, orthotomics and catacaustics of frontals in the hyperbolic 2-space

    In this paper, firstly the definition of the pedal curves of spacelike frontals is presented. The parametric representation of pedal curves of spacelike frontals is given by using the hyperbolic Legendrian moving frames along these frontals. We mainly deal with the classification and recognition problems of singularities of hyperbolic pedal curves of spacelike frontals constructed by non-singular and singular dual curve germs in hyperbolic 2-space. We show that for non-singular dual curve germs one can determine singularity types of such pedal curves based on singularities of the first spacelike hyperbolic Legendrian curvature germs and locations of pedal points. On the other hand, for singular dual curve germs, singularity types of pedal curves depend upon singularities of both of the spacelike hyperbolic Legendrian curvature germs and also locations of pedal points. Then, after introducing orthotomics of spacelike frontals we present some relationships of such curves with hyperbolic pedal curves. Finally, we present an application to light patterns generated by reflected rays in hyperbolic plane. The theory investigated in the paper is supported by illustrated examples

    On micro-structural effects in dielectric mixtures

    The paper presents numerical simulations performed on dielectric properties of two-dimensional binary composites on eleven regular space filling tessellations. First, significant contributions of different parameters, which play an important role in the electrical properties of the composite, are introduced both for designing and analyzing material mixtures. Later, influence of structural differences and intrinsic electrical properties of constituents on the composite's over all electrical properties are investigated. The structural differences are resolved by the spectral density representation approach.     Online Fault Classification in HPC Systems through Machine Learning

    As High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems strive towards the exascale goal, studies suggest that they will experience excessive failure rates. For this reason, detecting and classifying faults in HPC systems as they occur and initiating corrective actions before they can transform into failures will be essential for continued operation. In this paper, we propose a fault classification method for HPC systems based on machine learning that has been designed specifically to operate with live streamed data. We cast the problem and its solution within realistic operating constraints of online use. Our results show that almost perfect classification accuracy can be reached for different fault types with low computational overhead and minimal delay. We have based our study on a local dataset, which we make publicly available, that was acquired by injecting faults to an in-house experimental HPC system.Comment: Accepted for publication at the Euro-Par 2019 conferenc

    The effects of quercetin on liver regeneration after liver resection in rats

    The aim of the present study was to assess the influence of quercetine (QE) on liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy (PH) in rats. A total of 24 male Wistar albino rats were divided into three groups: sham-operated (SH), PH and PH+QE; each group contain 8 animals. The rats in QE-treated groups were given QE (15 mg/kg body weight) once a day i.p., for 7 days starting 3 days prior to hepatectomy operation. At 7 days after resection, liver samples were collected. The malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione (GSH) levels were estimated in liver homogenates. Moreover, histopathological examination, mitotic index (MI), proliferating cell nuclear antigen labelling, proliferation index (PI), transferase-mediated dUTP nick end-labelling assay, apoptotic index (AI) were evaluated at 7 days after hepatectomy. As a result, QE significantly increased MI, PI, and significantly decreased AI in PH rats. Additionally, QE remarkably inhibited the elevation of MDA, restored impaired antioxidant SOD activity and GSH level, and also attenuated hepatic vacuolar degeneration and sinusoidal congestion. These results suggested that QE treatment had a beneficial effect on liver regenerative capacity of the remnant liver tissue after hepatectomy, probably due to its antioxidative, antiapoptotic and proliferative property

    FINJ: A Fault Injection Tool for HPC Systems

    We present FINJ, a high-level fault injection tool for High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems, with a focus on the management of complex experiments. FINJ provides support for custom workloads and allows generation of anomalous conditions through the use of fault-triggering executable programs. FINJ can also be integrated seamlessly with most other lower-level fault injection tools, allowing users to create and monitor a variety of highly-complex and diverse fault conditions in HPC systems that would be difficult to recreate in practice. FINJ is suitable for experiments involving many, potentially interacting nodes, making it a very versatile design and evaluation tool.Comment: To be presented at the 11th Resilience Workshop in the 2018 Euro-Par conferenc

    Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography in the Diagnosis and Management of Choledochal Cysts

    Choledochal cysts are an uncommon anomaly of the biliary system manifested by cystic dilatation of the extra or intrahepatic biliary tree or both. It is most frequently found in Orientals and in females. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is a valuable imaging technique in the diagnosis of choledochal cysts in adults. Additionaly, in selected cases, a choledochocele may be effectively managed by endoscopic sphincterotomy. We present clinical and endoscopic findings of six adult patients with choledochal cysts. Clinical symptoms were characterized by abdominal pain, jaundice and cholangitis. Associated hepatobiliary pathologic findings included cholelithiasis, recurrent acute pancreatitis, gallbladder carcinoma, Cystolithiasis, choledocholithiasis, biliary stricture and hepatic abscess
